Together Against Counterfeiting (TAC) Alliance calls on EU policy-makers to apply KYBC principle to all online intermediaries

20 April 2021 - The Together Against Counterfeiting (TAC) Alliance co-signs two letters to the European Parliament and Council of the EU calling for stronger Know Your Business Customer (KYBC) rules in the EU. Together with 80 organisations, the Alliance stresses that the Commission’s DSA proposal which introduces KYBC obligations in the context of online marketplaces only is a missed opportunity to address the broad range of illegal content and counterfeit, unsafe, non-compliant and substandard products online.

The Together Against Counterfeiting (TAC) Alliance co-signs two letters to the European Parliament and Council of the EU calling for stronger Know Your Business Customer (KYBC) rules in the EU. Together with 80 organisations, the Alliance stresses that the Commission’s Digital Services Act proposal introducing KYBC obligations in the context of online marketplaces only is a missed opportunity to address the broad range of illegal content and counterfeit, unsafe, non-compliant and substandard products online.

To ensure that what is illegal offline is truly illegal online, the signatories urge decision-makers to ensure that all intermediaries – not just online marketplaces – know who their business customers really are.
